What Was Your Fashion at 12.....

A few weeks back a friend told me about a 12 year old who had a fashion blog, and had gained so much recognition that she has since been featured in magazines, given clothes from designers all over the world, used as inspiration for countless designs, and obtained exclusive invites to high fashion shows and events. And yes, she is 12.

I soon found this blog, and... wow. That is all I can say. This little girl is amazing. She is not afraid of fashion and embracing it as her own unique expression. She confidently puts her own spin on everything she wears, and you can tell she takes the time to think about it. Each piece is specially and specifically picked to match the mood/style/inspiration/color she wants to portray. I read this blog with my jaw dropped the entire time. I am 23 and working in retail and I could never have this fashion sense. And at 12, I was playing with barbies and wearing cut off jeans.

Now, many of you may go to her blog and think... "wow... definitely does not look like a 12 year old, but really... that is impressive?? What is she wearing?" And that is what makes it so fantastic. In my humble opinion, the best type of fashion is that which you could only find in your own head. The idea that you did not just copy what you saw on the mannequin at a store, but instead put odd and unique pieces together in a confident way that many may not understand screams FASHION. This young girl is not afraid to express herself, and I could only wish to have her closet. What I love is that she is 12 and is wearing outfits you would only see on runways.... those outfits you would never think of, but look at in awe. And what is the best is that her style extends to every part of her... her hair, accessories, writing, eclectic yet messy room.

If you cannot already tell, this little girl plain ol' amazes me. I hope that even if you don't fully understand her, you are just as impressed. Meet Tavi Williams.

I am now going to go and stand in my closet, and look at my clothes, and tell them I wish they could be as cool as Tavi's. I hope I do not hurt their feelings too badly........

Friday Favorites...

So, I know that as I am writing this it is no longer Friday. However, I am still awake, so to me it is still Friday. And thus, I wanted to introduce my first of what I hope to be a few different regular themed posts.

Friday Favorites.

These posts will be mostly pictures and explanations of some of the favorite things I have seen as I have been shopping, at work, reading magazines, or looking at stores online. I always see pieces that I LOVE and I think this will be a fun way to showcase some trends, styles, and unique pieces that you could find out there in stores and other places.

So, this week's Friday Favorites are....

I love that spring is coming... and I love that it is girly. Florals, bright colors, and rosettes. Trust me, these 3 things are everywhere.
Anthropology ($228).

I have seen this at work and love it. The denim-like material. The one shoulder (huge trend this season). The ruffles. Girly, casual, flirty, and just fun.
Dillards ($88).

Is this season's girly side not screaming at you yet? I love the ruffles, and the ribbon belt, and the color. Spring is going to be fun.
Forever 21 ($32).
My love of boots is what loves these. The great transition between boots to sandals is encompassed in this shoe. It has the feeling of a bootie, but with the peep-toe and open sides, you could pair it with tights now, and barefoot in a few months. Ready for winter and spring. Perfect.
Dillard's ($49).

Say hello to TOM....

TOMS. My favorite type of shoe.

My latest pair.... birthday present. LOVE.

If you have not tried these shoes, I am sorry. You are missing out. Not only are they incredibly comfortable and cute, they also are for a very good cause. For every pair of TOMS shoes that is purchased, they donate a pair to a child in a foreign country that would not have a pair of shoes otherwise. I bet your other shoes don't do that. But they are probably wishing they were that cool......

TOMS started a little while back, and they are only offered in little boutiques and online. They developed somewhat of a "cult" following, but have now become quite wide spread and well known. They truly are some of my favorite shoes I have ever owned. They are offered in multiple colors and unique designs. They are more of a casual shoe, and they are probably the most comfortable shoe I wear.

So, yes, as shocking as this is.... TOMS are an obsession. As we all know now, I have many of these when it comes to clothing and accessories. However, I am quite certain that if you got yourself a pair of TOMS they would soon become your obsession as well. This I know. Trust me.... I am the master of fashion obsessions. (I should probably not be proud of that......)

Ahoy Maty.....

Wanna go sailing? Well, even if you don't feel like getting on a boat... especially since it is still about 40 degrees outside.... a very popular trend this season is all things nautical. I have started to see it in more and more stores, and honestly, I have decided I love it.

Yes, it is probably what you are thinking. All red, white, and blue. But what I am loving about it is that it is a very classic style. Alot of cardigans (which we know I love), alot of layering, pairing different pieces. It can be a very mix and match style. Obviously your entire outfit does not need to be ALL nautical... could be a bit excessive. However, this trend is producing alot of adorable pieces that I think anyone should add to their wardrobe to pair with things already found in their closests.

As I said, I have seen this in alot of stores. While I was shopping at Charlotte Russe the other day, I snapped a quick photo of two of their mannequins. Small taste of what this hot trend is about. To see more, you are just going to need to go shopping.... what a pity.

I Can't Live Without You...

To go along with my "Obsession" theme of late, I thought I should share some of my basics... the things I truly cannot live without every day. These are both in and out of the closet, but they are things I don't know if I ever want to go without. I think everyone has their "must-haves." Although they are probably different for each and every woman, these are some that I suggest trying, if you have not all ready... they make me happy :)

Cami from Charlotte Russe.
Always between $5-$7 (depending on sales), and it is the best cami I have ever worn. They are long. Made out of a stretchy and comfortable material. They don't wear out. Perfect to layer under anything. Available in EVERY color.
I have....6.... I think.

Yes, you are looking at the right picture. It is a 5-pack of men's v-neck tshirts. Like I said... basics. I wear these with everything. Favorite outfit is a pair of jeans, this tshirt, a comfy cardigan, and a scarf. Easy, comfortable, and just plain cute. The fit is wonderful, because obviously they are made for men, so they are a bit larger than you would usually wear. Go buy yourself a pack and see how many different ways you can mix and match it with the clothes in your closet... you will surprise yourself.
Oh and the best deal, considering you get 5 shirts for around $5-$10.

This is obviously not from my closet, but I would probably trade my closet for this piece of hair magic. It is my GHD hair straightener. I have been a long time fan of the CHI, until my friend and hairstylist showed me this product. I love it. It straightens my hair in an instant and keeps my hair looking perfect all day. Also does curls like magic. Although it is a bit pricey (ranging from $180-$260), I promise you it is worth every single penny.
I could not go a day without it, and trust me, you wouldn't want to see my hair if I did.

Every girl has their few make-up products they have to have. These have become mine. The first is Clinique's All About Eyes Concealer ($15.50). This is by far the best under eye concealer I have used, and I am officially addicted to it. Takes away dark circles and puffiness like magic, and it contains caffeine to help not just conceal but get rid of your tired looking eyes. The second is the Lash Building Primer, also from Clinique ($13). Use this under your mascara to help make your mascara stay on longer and make your lashes appear longer and fuller. It will also help in moisturizing dull and dry lashes.
Love. These. Products.

These are my must-haves. The things I use practically daily. I am quite sure if I were stranded on a desert island, these would be the 5 things I would need packed in my bag (because, yes, if I were stranded on an island, I would of course get a bag packed for myself first... duh.)

What are your must-haves????

These Boots Are Made For Walking....

Each season, I notice myself finding a new obsession. This season..... Boots! As much as I have always loved boots, I rarely used to buy any, mostly because I thought I could not find any at a reasonable price. I may love shoes (trust me, I do...) however, they are one of the last things I will buy for myself, unless they are cheap. I skimp when it comes to shoes.

This year, however, I realized that you can find boots at amazing prices! I wanted to scream it from the rooftops "Boots CAN be under $100... heck, boots can be under $40." I mean really, why was the media not alerted?? And when I say boots, I mean cute boots. Trust me, I am not about to go out and buy some grandma boots. Unfortunately, due to my job, I was only able to pick out flat boots for myself. But I think that may have been the best part of my hunt. Flat boots are out there by the truckloads, and they are just plain adorable. If you don't have a pair, I highly suggest going on your own hunt. (It is way better than hunting deer... and you look cuter doing it)

Favorite place to get boots: Rack Room Shoes (see pictures). I bought 2 pairs of boots there for a total of $45. If you are not a regular to Rack Room Shoes, you need to remedy that.... quickly! Also, check out any of the smaller and "cheaper" shoe stores for seasonal items such as boots, as well as favorites such as Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe. You will get cute, trendy, fashion forward boots at an extremely reasonable price. That way, even if it is only one season's use you get out of them, it is not a loss.

To end, I will show you the not so cheap boots I unfortunatly fell in love with... and will never get. I wish that my joy at finding good deals would keep me from ever falling in love with the things that are not good deals. Hmmmm.... I am thinking a fundraiser entitled "Get Becca Her Pretty Boots" would be a good idea. Don't you? (Ok, don't answer that...)

Those are just delicious.....

Wrap It Up....

If this picture doesn't already make it quite clear..... another of my obsessions is SCARVES. These truly are my go-to for almost every outfit. When you don't feel like messing with jewelry, want some color, or just need a little something more for your outfit... throw on a scarf. They instantly change any outfit to something a bit more unique and fun. They can be dressy. Casual. Simple. Unique. Square. Long and flowy. You name it... there is a scarf out there like it. Or most likely, it is on my wall..... and the sad thing is not every scarf is hanging up there. (Are you fully understanding my obsession yet?)

(Not usually a fan of the "look, celebrities wear it too!", but this is a great collage of different ways to wear my favorite accessory.)

Just Throw on a Cardigan....

I have a tendency to become attatched and obsessed with certain types of clothing. However, these items have now become staples to my wardrobe, and I am certain they should be staples to everyone's closet. These are my "basics." You can never have too many of the basic items to your wardrobe, because there are countless ways to wear each.
My first basic is: The Cardigan (fondly referred to as a "cardi" by many)
What I love about the cardigan is that it is not just a simple sweater with buttons anymore. There are millions of different styles of cardigans and thus millions of ways to wear them. Here are a few of my favorite styles.

All styles from Forever21.

This is about three in oh.... 12,000 different types of cardis. Thus my problem... too many options and ways to aid my obsession. Good thing I have made them a basic. Oh, and you should too.
